Sleep plays a crucial role to our health to maintain a healthy body. As we go to bed to sleep, the body begins its night-shift work: Healing damaged cells, boosting the immune system, as well as recharging the heart and other parts of the cardiovascular system for the next day

Sleep is a problem solving skill; studies show that a good night’s sleep improves learning. Whether you are learning further mathematics or how to blow trumpet, how to perfect your swimming skills, sleep helps enhance your learning ability. Sleep also helps you make accurate decision, pay attention, and be creative.

The human immune system relies on sleep to stay healthy. This system protects the body against foreign or harmful substances. Shortage or lack of sleep can change the way in which the immune system responds.

Sleep also affects how your body reacts to insulin, the hormone that controls your blood glucose (sugar) level. Inadequate sleep results in a higher than normal blood sugar level, which may increase your risk for diabetes.

One way to facilitate good sleep is to sleep in the dark place you can tolerate. Light disturbs the rhythm of the pineal gland’s production of serotonin and melatonin. Also, the smell of lavender, neroli or ylang ylang put us in the right frame of mind for bed. The significant thing is to take control of your own sleep and keep trying until you find a set of rituals that work for you.
